Li Qi [Mr. Li] is a curator and writer based between New York City and Shanghai. With over thirteen years of multidisciplinary experience in global art, his practice spans the dynamic art scenes of China, East and Southeast Asia, and beyond. Li Qi has curated and organized large-scale exhibitions showcasing both emerging talents and established artists from the Asia Pacific region, as well as prominent figures from Europe and North America. He identifies and amplifies key voices in contemporary art via exhibitions, commissions, and institutional acquisitions, while exploring perennial themes that shape global art history through research and writing. He has also played a pivotal role in developing two of the most influential art publications in 21st-century China.
Li Qi currently serves as the Collection Curator of De Ying Foundation, Program Manager at Sunpride Foundation, and Guest Curator for Audemars Piguet Contemporary. He is an active member of the Asian Art Roundtable, an international curatorial network implemented by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan.
Previously, Li Qi was Editor-in-Chief of LEAP, Deputy Editor of The Art Newspaper China, and Senior Curator at Rockbund Art Museum in Shanghai. Notably, he organized the Hugo Boss Asia Art Award (2015, 2017) and curated or co-curated major exhibitions, including solo shows for Heman Chong (2016) and Felix Gonzalez-Torres (2016). In 2014, he curated “Conditions,” the first exhibition of queer art in contemporary China. His essays have enriched exhibitions and catalogues for esteemed artists such as Alex Katz and Ugo Rondinone.
