Sunpride Foundation was established in 2014 with a mission to celebrate and promote the rich, creative history of the LGBTQ+ community. The Foundation seeks to foster a stronger, healthier, and more equitable world for LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies by encouraging and inspiring a new generation of young artists to take action and create positive change. Through the exhibition and preservation of art, Sunpride aims to amplify voices that resonate with society at large.

In December 2022, “Myth Makers—Spectrosynthesis III,” the first major survey exhibition on LGBTQ+ perspectives in Hong Kong, was co-presented by the Foundation and Tai Kwun Contemporary, a landmark kunsthalle in the heart of Hong Kong. The exhibition explores contemporary mythologies and practices of the body, showcasing a diverse range of artistic expressions related to LGBTQ+ perspectives from over 60 artists across Asia and its diasporas. “Myth Makers” includes over 100 artworks in all Tai Kwun Contemporary galleries, with one third of the works loaned from Sunpride’s collection.

The Tai Kwun Contemporary exhibition expands on the “Spectrosynthesis” series, which began in Taipei in 2017 in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei, and continued in Bangkok in 2019, presented in partnership with the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre.
